Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom: First Smartphone to contain 16 Megapixel 10x Optical Zoom Camera

Samsung Electronics has recently announced the launch of the new Samsung GalaxyS4 Zoom, a new device that blends the stylish and fully featured smartphone ‘galaxy S’ series with an amazing best-in-class, highly advanced digital camera; definitely one of its kind! This means that the usual backplate of the previous ‘S4 Mini’ has been replaced with a 16-megapixel camera with unbelievable 10x optical zoom! With the stunning combination it targets many people who now can use their phones as their main camera, that too with highly impressive picture quality.

Samsung GALAXY S4 zoom | PixelBing

It’s powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with resolution of 960 x 540, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal memory that’s expandable via microSD. It also has a 2130 mAh battery, and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. The camera set-up includes a 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), optical 10X zoom, Xenon flash, HDR, panorama, and 24mm wide-angle lens. It offers full HD video capture, and there’s also a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera.

The S4 Zoom is the only smartphone that allows a brilliant optical zoom along with an impressive digital zoom. The focal length starts at 24mm, which is quite a wide angle that allows capturing more of a scene in one picture. It zooms to 10x, which is sufficient for clicking high quality shots even from distant position from the object. The zoom is controlled by a ring around the barrel, which can also be set to control different functions or bring up menus. It can be twisted during a phone call and it’ll allow user to snap a shot and instantly send it to the one at the other end, via MMS. Behind the zoom barrel a 16-megapixel backside, illuminated CMOS sensor, is there. It is physically bigger than the sensors found inside regular smartphones. A bigger sensor means that more light can hit it, which should greatly improve image quality.

With its bigger sensor, higher resolution, and 10x optical zoom, the Galaxy S4 Zoom may well be the dedicated shutterbug’s phone of choice.

Samsung has provided 25 different scene modes to choose from, including “HDR”, “panorama” and “night”. User can allow the phone to suggest the best mode for the scene or they can simply leave it in auto mode for a hassle-free experience.

When the phone specification is considered, galaxy s4 zoom is a bit disappointing. Stuffed inside the body is 1.5GHz dual-core processor is a disappointing downgrade from the huge quad-core brute (octo-core in some places) in the true S4. Editing such high-resolution photos and videos would undoubtedly be made a whole lot smoother with a faster chip but unfortunately a lesser chip in place is a disadvantage that this phone offers. It’s running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the most recent version of Google’s mobile operating system. The interface has been tweaked slightly to make it easier to access camera functions. There’s 8GB of internal storage as standard, of which 5GB is available for use (expandable via microSD). The battery is a fairly capacious 2,330mAh affair, which can be removed via a slot on the side. The screen is a 4.3-inch affair with a disappointing 960×540-pixel resolution. That’s a big step down from the full HD display found on the S4 and particularly irritating given the phone’s imaging focus, where more pixels will help show off a clearer image.

User can do everything and miss nothing thanks to the revolutionary new Zoom Ring, a simple and intuitive way to access the Galaxy S4 Zoom’s key features. As mentioned earlier, while in the middle of a phone call, seeing something that’s absolutely worth sharing, a quick twist of the Zoom Ring will activate the In-Call Photo Share feature. It lets capture and send an image directly via MMS to the one at the other end. For easy camera navigation, the Zoom Ring can be used to activate the Quick Launch and Shortcut features, giving instant access to multiple camera modes including Auto, Gallery and Smart Mode with just a simple twist. Revolutionizing conventional camera zoom controls, the Optical zoom control replaces traditional dials and buttons with smooth, easy-to-operate digital controls making it even easier to take professional and accurate shots.

The Samsung galaxy s4 zoom allows capturing best pictures with the best-in-class 10x Optical Zoom and 16MP BSI CMOS Sensor that lets everyone capture beautiful images from far away or close ups and personal, in all light conditions, without having to carry heavy camera gear. The built-in Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) helps keep the camera perfectly still, reducing blur and stabilizing the image when zooming-in for high-quality photos and videos.

Photo Suggest instantly connects the users to huge libraries of images taken by fellow photographers, to help find and compose the best-ever-shots, anywhere in the world. Photo Suggest can direct to the ideal nearby location which gives the vantage point the user need for that perfect photo. The GalaxyS4 Zoom also features Samsung’s popular Smart Mode. Simply choose from a series of pre-set modes and the camera will automatically adjust to ensure to capture the best photo possible. Use Drama Shot to merge continuous shots of moving objects into a single composed image, or Action Freeze to instantly capture high-speed action. If users are not sure which Smart Mode to select, the Smart Mode Suggest feature can assess the scene and provides a list of the best options based on light levels, focal length, or face detection.

The GalaxyS4 Zoom’s heritage is evident throughout, from its sleek and stylish design to the powerful, yet intuitive user interface. Running on Android Jelly Bean 4.2, the GalaxyS4 zoom boasts many of the same features as the recently launched Galaxy S4, including Touchwiz, which lets everyone fully customize various aspects of the device including the lock screen and notification bar, for a truly personal mobile experience.

Perfect for keen travelers, Story Albumlets and all the favorite images and videos can be arranged into one timeline to share with friends and loved ones. It also offers facility to edit images and even can order prints directly from the device through a partnership with blurb, Samsung Link allows easily to transfer images to laptops or tablets for safe keeping with just the touch of a button. Alternatively, it also allows synchronizing all of your data in own personal cloud through HomeSync.

The GalaxyS4 Zoom also features the new Samsung Hub, a one-stop destination for all of the latest music, videos, books and games. One can search, download and enjoy all of the favorite entertainment at the touch of a button, directly from his device. Sharing a new track or game with friends using Group Play and connecting directly with their Samsung devices is also possible, so as to listen and play together, without the need for a Wi-Fi AP or cellular signal.

Fujifilm FinePix T550: Slim and Stylish Long Zoom Digital Camera

FUJIFILM North America Corporation brilliantly comes up with the introduction of the new FinePix T550. This slim and stylish camera has a FUJINON 12x long zoom lens (24-288mm), and is thin enough to fit in your jeans or purse to take wherever you travel, or to just capture your everyday family life. This pocket friendly ultra-compact camera featuring 12x zoom, optical image stabilization and new advanced filter function makes the FinePix T550 a total hit.

It has the perfect combination of advanced features and ease of use, offering Optical Image Stabilization to help reduce camera shake and blurry images, and an Advanced Filter function for added creative expression. Additionally, its 16MP CCD sensor ensures that the highest image quality is captured every time and can be easily viewed on its bright 3” LCD screen.

“The FinePix T550 offers consumers a great combination of advanced features such as fast startup and auto focus speeds, and increased long zoom power to capture a wide range of photos, all in a stylish and affordable compact digital camera that fits in your pocket,” said David Troy, director of marketing, Digital Cameras, FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Electronic Imaging Division. “Everyday photographers will enjoy these cameras for their ease of use and outstanding features like Optical Image Stabilization, HD movie capture, and the Advanced Filter.”

Fujifilm finepix t550 | PixelBing

Despite being ultra-compact (18.6mm), the T550 camera offers impressively wide subject coverage with its 12x FUJINON optical zoom lens, from 24mm (wide) to 288mm (telephoto), resulting in an expanded range of shooting situations. Fujifilm‘s proprietary high resolution technology ensures stunning, clear results at 24x Intelligent Digital Zoom. To reduce the problems like ‘camera-shake’ and ‘blurring of images’ – especially at maximum zoom lengths – the T550 camera employ Optical Image Stabilization to capture a photo as crisp as possible. This means, the camera can be used without the need of a tripod or other support. With OIS, you can capture sharp, colorful scenes even in low-light situations.

The FinePix T550 allows HD Capture with Fast Start Up for capture of stunning images. With a 16MP CCD sensor, the T550 camera can produce high-quality, low-noise images, even at sensitivities of up to ISO 3200. Stunning movies can be recorded at 720p, and still images with aspect ratios of 16:9 can also be achieved simultaneously. Movie recording can be started in an instant, thanks to the dedicated “Movie Recording Button,” and for the creative type of user, the camera also includes a number of advanced movie-editing features. In addition, the T550’s autofocus times are 20% faster than the previous model, the FinePix T400’s, so your camera is always ready when you are.

Fujifilm finepix t550 | PixelBing

Viewing images on the T550 is a pleasure with the smooth, easy-to-read vector fonts and the new high-resolution 3.0”/460K-dot LCD screen. Additionally, an Instant Zoom feature, which shows your composition area as well as the area outside your frame, and large buttons in a simple layout, helps users concentrate on composing, without ever losing sight of the big picture. Another exciting change in this year’s T-Series is that the battery now does not have to be removed for charging, as it can be connected via a USB cable to the power source.

The T550 also features a new Advanced Filter option that lets users enjoy a variety of photographic expressions. Choose from 6 creative patterns, including:

• Pop Color – great for boosting contrast and saturation
• Toy Camera – adds vignetting for a 70’s retro look
• Miniature – blurred top and bottom sections for a tilt-and-shift effect
• Partial Color – selects one color and takes the rest of the shot in black and white. (choose from red, purple, yellow, green, blue and orange)
• Soft Focus – create a soft focus effect
• Cross Screen – adds starbursts around bright objects

Coolpix S800c: The First Android Powered Camera by Nikon

Smartphones are evolving day by day, alongwith newer enhancements, they are also getting powerful upgrades on their built in cameras, which is a serious issue to worry upon for the camera manufacturers. To give a serious competition to the smartphone manufacturers, Nikon has housed the green robot from google that is virally popular globally, known as android in its latest launch Coolpix S800C. It is Nikon’s first Android powered camera which features a gingerbread (Android 2.3) Operating System, alongwith connectivity options such as WiFi.

Coolpix_S800c | Pixelbing

Imagine waiting for a shot, and playing angry birds or fruit ninja on the same device till then, or even managing to have a skype video call. Once a picture is taken, editing and sharing it instantly with instagram on facebook, twitter, etc. The S800C does it all with the android power.

The camera is good with the operating system, and the backside just seems like a touchscreen smartphone. It has a 3.5 inch WVGA OLED touchscreen, wifi, Bluetooth and GPS for providing smarter connectivity options and for easy image share, along with 2GB of internal memory, out of which only about 700mb is meant for the applications. Provision of expandable external SD card storage is also present.

Coolpix_S800c | Pixelbing

Coolpix_S800c | Pixelbing

From the camera’s perspective, it houses a 16 megapixel CMOS sensor, a 25-250mm equivalent F3.2-5.8 lens, 10x optical zoom, upto 8fps continuous shooting, and Full HD 1080p 30fps video recording.

Overall, the camera is a good attempt for smartphone killing, but it has more entered to kill the fancies, and none of serious photography. Processing is slower, hence in serious photography, one does need a good responsive screen display as well as shooting which somehow lacks. The battery life, since being ‘wasted’ for running features like GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, the Android OS and Apps is greatly compromised. Responsiveness is an issue with the camera, and lots of work needs to be done upon it.

Coolpix_S800c | Pixelbing

Coolpix_S800c | Pixelbing

The smart-camera is available for a price of USD $349.95 in USA, £219 in Europe and for Rs. 20,950 in India. Its keenly priced for a fancy camera with such functionalities, though for serious photography, I would recommend going for some hybrid camera available in this range.

Nikon D4 [PixelBing]

Camera Showcase: Nikon D4 – Reviews, Specifications, Price of the new Allrounder from Nikon

Nikon, one of the most notable figures in the camera world has come up with its new top-of-the-line camera, the Next Generation (as they say it) Nikon D4. This camera is an ultimate piece of engineering, with too many new powerful features and superior image quality. The product is campaigned as the Total Professional Imaging Machine, which means it is equally useful for both the still, and the video photographers.

The camera shall be known for its full frame awesomeness of 16.2 effective megapixels, and an excellent still photo capture rate of upto 10 fps with full autofocus. The camera has got an Ethernet port, and a 91,000 pixel metering sensor alongwith a re-engineered AF sensor capable of shooting in lower light levels. This mighty DSLR has 51 point autofocus capability, out of which 15 points are cross type.

Not only this, the Nikon’s own boasted “Multi-media DSLR” isn’t merely a bluff. The DSLR has been expanded with its video abilities too. With the new EXPEED 3: fast, intelligent and powerful 16-bit image processing power underneath, one can shoot full HD 1080p videos in all the FX, DX, and the 1920×1080 crop format. The handy feature that catches attraction is the illuminated buttons and the dual card clots, which includes the new-gen QCD memory cards. The same functionalities have also been incorporated in the Nikon D800 which was launched recently.  The D4 also incorporates a wireless transmitter for clicking pictures at a distance.

When it comes to the matter of price, the allrounder boy has been priced at about $6000 (US Dollars) and INR 3,49,950 in India for Body only.

The other detail specifications of the camera are given below (Source: Nikon Official):
