Pentax changes its name, now will be called Ricoh Imaging

Pentax is a brand name when it comes to variety of digital cameras and imaging technologies including weather-resistant digital SLRs, expert and outdoor compact cameras, as well as lenses, flash units, binoculars, scopes, and eyepieces. The company was born in some 1919 with manufacturing of spectacle lenses, which it still manufactures.

In 2011, it became a part of Ricoh, a company known for printing related solutions. The company announced that Pentax will now be called RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. The change shall be effective from 1st of August 2013.

The Korean electronics giant Samsung has probably been a head turning showcaser at the CES. From ultrabooks to ultra HD television sets, and flexible mobile phones and eight core processors, the company has been interestingly dominant at the CES 2013. What we are interested soulfully is the camera lineup, so we take you there to let you know what was the wonder this company came up with in the range of digital cameras in the CES 2013.

In the CES 2013, Samsung has announced the NX300 a new addition to the Samsung’s NX series of mirrorless cameras. The NX300 houses an entirely new 20.3 Megapixel APS-CMOS sensor, and a very wide ISO range ranging from ISO100 to ISO25600 is capable of capturing high quality images in all types of light conditions. Samsung also boasts about a new Hybrid Auto Focus (AF) system. The camera is sure to be a blockbuster amidst the action photographers. It has shutter speed as fast as 1/6000sec and is capable of shooting continuous pictures at 8.6fps.

Samsung has been working to come up with better imaging and one step forward success is the proof of its in-house developed DRIMe IV imaging engine which provides precisely detailed images and greater noise reduction. The camera shoots videos in 1080p full HD, and is WiFi enabled.

Do not get knocked by the retro styling and buttons, the NX300 consists of a 84mm (3.31”) AMOLED touch screen with 768,000 pixels along with a tilt display which makes it easier to capture images from more angles. It also has a 5-way manual key interface. The camera has an intuitive Smart Mode that allows users to choose from 14 different settings, such as Creative Shot, Landscape, Light Trace or Action Freeze that automatically adjust parameters such as aperture and shutter speed in order to obtain the best shot possible for the desired situation. There is a new feature included, called the i-Depth, which is a part of NX Series’ i-Function system, which enables users to modify camera parameters using the lens itself, adjusting the image without ever having to move off target.

Now, coming to the biggest news associated with the NX300, Samsung has launched a compatible lens with the camera, though is sold separately, that enables the camera to shoot 3D images as well as 2D images with flip of just a single switch on the lens. Samsung 45mm f1.8 2D / 3D lens as they call it, is the world’s first one-lens 3D system for a consumer camera. For shooting 3D images, the lens works by using two LCD filters to project slightly ‘parallaxed’ images onto the camera’s sensor. It can shoot 3D videos as well as still images. Any 3D TV can efficiently be used for the 3D video playback.

Impressive, isn’t it? Regarding the verdict of availability of the NX300 camera, Samsung will ensure it hits the market shelves nearby March 2013 for a price bracket nearing $750 and will include a standard zoom lens. In the Nikon D3200, new Guide Mode is a new feature added in the mode selection panel, designed to help users to achieve the best possible image quality without having much amount of photographic knowledge. Nikon has brilliantly come up with the new F-mount DLSR camera, the D5200, that has appeared to improve on the D5100 by offering various upgradations. The camera seems to have more advanced features like the upgraded brilliance of 39-point AF system, that provides exceptionally precise focus and an extra ordinary performance,  and the 2016-pixel RGB color sensitive metering sensor ( which was 420-pixel in D5100), brings an appropriate and accurate screen brightness. The imaging sensor also got a huge revolution bump, from 16.2 (in D5100) to 24.1MP DX format CMOS sensing. It provides an ISO sensitivity range from 100-6400 and can be boosted up to ISO 12800-25600. The D5200’s new sensor is complemented by EXPEED 3 image processing that provides higher speed, improved colour reproduction and noise reduction.

The outstanding image quality enables full HD 1920×1080 movies.  For extra-ordinary sound the D5200 captures audio in stereo with built in microphone. The 921k pixel 3” vari-angle TFT monitor and 170 degrees viewing angle makes it flexible to shoot from different angles and perspectives.

All in all, the D5200 is a great upgraded version for those who love it crispier, and resolution enthusiasts alongwith greater frame rates and some action photography. The D5100 is itself a serious challenger in the entry level DSLR segment and produces superb images with a great quality. The D5200, with an upgraded processor, bigger sensor, better metering, and enhanced dynamicity is a good buy for solely on purpose stuffs.

The camera is priced at Rs.57,950 (with AF-S 18-105mm VR Kit Lens), Rs. 46,950 (with AF-S 18-55mm VR Kit Lens) and Rs. 41,450 (Body only) in India and will be available in the US till January 2013.

The camera shall be known for its full frame awesomeness of 16.2 effective megapixels, and an excellent still photo capture rate of upto 10 fps with full autofocus. The camera has got an Ethernet port, and a 91,000 pixel metering sensor alongwith a re-engineered AF sensor capable of shooting in lower light levels. This mighty DSLR has 51 point autofocus capability, out of which 15 points are cross type.

Not only this, the Nikon’s own boasted “Multi-media DSLR” isn’t merely a bluff. The DSLR has been expanded with its video abilities too. With the new EXPEED 3: fast, intelligent and powerful 16-bit image processing power underneath, one can shoot full HD 1080p videos in all the FX, DX, and the 1920×1080 crop format. Camera Showcase: Nikon D800 – All about the new 36 Megapixel Monster by Nikon

Nikon is fighting really hard to make itself superior in the new year of 2012.  It can clearly be seen from the launches being made by the photography giant. In only the few span of days from commencement of 2012, Nikon has already launched about 20 products (which includes DSLRs, compacts and accessories), and finally with something that really gets the eyes on. This is a 36 megapixel Full Frame DSLR by Nikon, the D800. The D800 has many upgrades over the D700, and houses many of the features of the newly launched D4, in a comparatively cheaper price (almost half the price) and a lighter body than the D4.

The D700 did not contain a video mode, but after taking inspiration from the big brother D4, the D800 houses a Full HD video functionality. This camera can easily record 1080p videos at different frame rates of 30, 25, 24 fps, but the interesting feature that is eye catchy at this range is shooting capability of slow-motion flicks at 720p with frame rates of 60fps, and 50fps.

The full frame monster includes the same EXPEED 3 processor, 91k pixel metering system with the FX format and 51 autofocus points as were present in the D4. The camera has got a great ISO sensitivity range ranging from -2 EV to ISO 25600. Like the D4, and unlike the D700, the D800 incorporates dual memory card slots, the Compact Flash and the SD format. Compared to the D700, the body is more compact, and the buttons, specially the shutter button is repositioned for better ergonomics.

Nikon has also launched another model, D800E. The D800 will be a standard edition, whereas the special craft D800E is targeted for people working in studio and fashion environment. The D800E has no other specific change, except the anti-aliasing filter being removed. Surprising fact, the removal of a standard part adds up to the price by about £400. Removing the filter potentially increases greater detail capturing in the camera, but on the other hand also increases the possibility of false colour or moiré patterns.

In a layman comparison, the D3 and D3x with 24 megapixel power are quite bulky, and even lack inbuilt flash, hence incompatible for outdoor usage, as well as quite costly compared to the D800. Hence, the D800 is a great buy at this price range for the variety of features provided. A few of them are discussed here in a quick review, with the detailed specifications provided in the end of the article.

One of the features includes the vari-angle LCD Screen which allows you to shoot from different angles.

The special attraction of the camera includes the special effects mode, which allows you to add special effects to the photos while shooting in the camera itself, such as the selective color mode, the miniature mode, night mode, sketch mode, etc. and accompanied by 16 special scene modes.
